Spring Follies! 2023

Who participates in Spring Follies?

All Fairfax Choral Society Youth Choruses (Lyric, Treble, and Concert Choirs, and Master Singers) are part of this concert. Each choir will perform at least two songs during the performance.

Singers in the Treble Choir, Concert Choir, and Master Singers may audition for a solo or small group act for the performance.

How do I sign up for an audition?

All singers must sign up for an audition. You may sign up immediately! — Just scroll down to the form at the bottom of this page! You must sign up no later than midnight, Thursday, March 23th

When are auditions?

Auditions will take place ONLY on Monday, March 27th.  Each act will be assigned a five-minute time period in which to audition, between 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm. After all the sign-ups have been collected, you will receive an email with your assigned audition time. Please note, ALL auditions will take place at Annandale United Methodist Church, 6935 Columbia Pike, Annandale, Virginia 22003.

What type of music should I choose?

Most singers choose to sing musical theater selections; however, we encourage singers to choose songs that have meaning to them.  We often feature other types of music in the concert, including self-composed, classical works, country, popular styles, etc.  We also encourage you to check out what was done in past years as a guide of what might work for the concert.  However, please refrain from choosing songs that were just performed last year and consider doing a song that speaks to you, but is less popular.  We try to vary the program each year. See the linked copies of last year’s concert program, or the 2018 concert program listing, or the 2016 and 2017 years’ repertoires! You may find resources in your local library or online.

What should I prepare for the audition?

All singers are to come prepared to do their act(s) as if they were to be viewed by an audience that day.  All costumes, props, staging, etc. should be included and your music should be memorized.

There are three types of accompaniment to choose from:
1. You provide a track / recording on your phone that has the accompaniment music on it. A Bluetooth speaker will be provided.
2. You accompany yourself, have a friend or family member accompany you, or choose to use no accompaniment.
3. You use the FCS provided accompanist.  If you choose to use the FCS-provided accompanist, please bring a photocopy of your music for the accompanist to use. The music should be copied on both sides of the paper and 3-hole-punched for easy use by the accompanist.

How many acts may I prepare?

You may prepare only one solo act, but you may be in as many group acts as you’d like. We STRONGLY encourage singers to form small groups!

Where can I get a roster of singers in my choir to contact them about being part of a group?

Ask your parent or guardian to log into Chorus Connection so that you may find other singers’ contact information in the member directory.

I have more questions. With whom should I talk?

If you have questions about repertoire or would like to get musical feedback, please contact your choir director.  The directors are happy to help and/or point you in the right direction.

If you have questions about the audition process or other issues, please talk to your choir conductor or contact the office.
