Fairfax Choral Society Announces 2017-18 Season

The FCS 56th Season opens with a concert in honor of retiring Artistic Director Doug Mears, Bravi Tutti, on November 12.  Concert pianist, organist, composer and conductor Paul Leavitt will begin as Interim Director of the Fairfax Choral Society in November 2017, leading the Symphonic Chorus holiday concert, This Christmastide, on December 2 at Our Lady of Good Council in Vienna, Virginia. He will go on to prepare the Chorus for their March 10, 2018 performance of Mozart’s Requiem and May 12 concert, A Night at the Opera, with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra as part of their 60th Anniversary Gala both at the GMU Center for the Art Concert Hall in Fairfax City.

The FCS award-winning Youth Program, under the direction of Pat Vaughn, will present two holiday concerts, Christmas with Annandale Youth ChorusesDecember 5, and Shine! with Centreville and Vienna Youth Choruses, December 9.  In the Spring they will perform Harmonoius Art:  Emerald Isle on March 17 and Poetry of Music March 20Spring Follies!, featuring the Annandale youth choruses and select solo acts, will be held May 18.  The season ends with Nonsense, a concert featuring the youth choruses of the Vienna and Centreville campuses, on June 2.  FCS has ten youth ensembles and 15 musicianship classes with three campuses located in Annandale, Vienna, and Centreville. The FCS Youth Program was honored by the Arts Council of Fairfax County with the 2016 Arts Education Award for its outstanding music education program.
