Why did you join Fairfax Choral Society?
- I joined because I was new to the area and I wanted to meet new people while continuing my lifelong love of choral music
- I'm not happy unless I'm involved in music. I joined without ever hearing FCS sing and it really turned out great!
- Because I need to sing, and FCS offers the right level of challenge and artistry. (And it's really fun.)

What keeps you coming back to FCS?
- I enjoy the selection of music, love working under Doug, and enjoy the people I sing with. I've made many friends in the group.
- The beautiful sound! And Doug is a phenomenal director. I have NEVER sat under such wonderful direction. He has great abilities to explain the tone and sounds he is looking for, gives great background info on the repertoire and expects the best out of us. I love the challenge!
- It's fun! Doug's artistic leadership; the friends I've made; the opportunities to sing the great choral works and new pieces in the best venues in DC (Kennedy Center, Wolftrap, etc.); and the joy of singing with a great group.

What do you most enjoy about being a member of FCS?
- I feel that I am continuing to learn how to be a good singer. I view every rehearsal as a voice lesson. I like the people who are in FCS; there are not a lot of prima donnas.
- Singing challenging music. Under the direction and guidance of Doug, we are able to stretch our talents to perform difficult music well. Singing with FCS soothes my soul! I also enjoy the many friends I have made in the group.
- I keep learning and growing with this group. Doug is an incredible teacher and it is amazing what he helps us to create.
- Doug Mears' direction makes me remember all that I love about singing each week.
