FCS Artistic Director For over 20 years, Douglas Mears has been instrumental, through his inspiring musical leadership, in bringing the Fairfax Choral Society to the forefront of Washington choruses. He joined FCS in 1980 as accompanist and shortly thereafter became Associate Director. Dr. Mears holds a doctorate of organ performance from The Catholic University of America, and earned a doctorate in choral conducting from the Eastman School of Music in 1991, studying with Donald Neuen. He has been the Fairfax Choral Society's Artistic Director and Conductor of the Chorus since 1991. The Washington Post has described the
FCS Chorus In addition to leading the Fairfax Choral Society, Dr. Mears serves as Director of Music at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, where he supervises the director of choral, handbell, and instrumental ensembles. He also is a published composer and arranger, having composed both sacred and secular music for chorus, handbells, and organ. |
